Spring 2009 Family Campout
Written by Mike Grecco

Greetings Pack 511,

This note is just another reminder that our annual Spring Campfire and Campout takes place Saturday May 2nd, 2009 at Greene Valley. As usual (in the spring) we will be accompanied/assisted by Boy Scout Troop 516 of Woodridge. Many thanks in advance to Troop 516 for their capable assistance.

Please be sure to bring a cooler with drinks for your family and also any snacks/chips you may want to have for the day.. For all who are planning to be there for dinner the Pack is providing our evening meal !!

Although many of the Pack signed up at the Pack Meeting we still have room for plenty more. You can come for just Saturday, or stay the night. We are at site 10 at Greene Valley. We begin setting up at 1:00.

If you would like to attend any part of this great outing, but didn’t sign up at the pack meeting, please send an email ASAP to me, Mr. Whiteman, the hero for this year's spring event. Your responses to the questions below will assist us in planning to make this a fantastic event.

In your email please indicate:

1.) Are you staying over night, if so how many?

2.) How many adults and children for dinner (this helps with our dinner meal planning)?

3.) If you are planning on attending only on Saturday for dinner and the campfire?

Thanks and we are all looking forward to an awesome time May 2nd-3rd.

Jeff Whiteman

Assistant Cubmaster

Did you know?

Setting this type of event up is not too complicated, but it will work best if you recruit helpers.

• First, find some dates that fit the pack schedule (at the committee meeting). Then contact the various campgrounds in the area (most are through the DuPage County Forest Preserve district; Von Oven is the other).

• Find an available site and book it. Get a tour permit through the Council at the Scout store. You MUST have a BALOO certified adult at the campout.

• Let the pack know the date, and get a head count for food.

• Organize food ordering (if you have help on the event), and get enough food for the number of people available.

• Take attendance at the event, and organize the cooking, etc.

• Give the attendance to the advancement chair to get segments ordered.

We're so glad you took the time to stop by the official site of Cub Scout Pack 511.  As you explore our site you will learn more about us and the world of Scouting. Our Pack is very active and we serve boys from the Woodridge IL school district 68 (mainly Goodrich, Meadowview and Willow Creek schools) in grades 1 through 5. We are part of the Thunderbird District and Three Fires Council. We would love to hear from you so feel free to drop us an email or stop by one of our Pack events. We have lots of fun and we know you will too. Remember Cub Scouting, is "Where the Adventure Begins..."!

Pack Hikes
Written by Administrator

ImageWe are striving to increase the frequency of outdoors activities for our pack, and as part of this, we continue to schedule hikes on a regular basis. The hikes are generally three mile hikes, and with regular attendance, our Cub Scouts can earn our Pack's 50 mile patch. Our 2009-2010 Cub Master, Mr. Jeske, continues to do a great job leading the Pack 511 Hiking program.

Great Job Mr. Jeske!!!
